SUKKUR, Feb 17: Following the transfer of Sindh IGP Syed Kamal Shah, the Sindh police have closed the file of kidnappers of two judges of Shikarpur, it was learnt here on Thursday.

Mr Shah had repeatedly claimed that bandits involved in the kidnapping had been identified and they would be taken to task after recovery of the judges. He had also vowed to arrest all people involved in the kidnapping directly or indirectly.

However, 20 days have lapsed since the recovery of the judges but police have neither disclosed the names of the kidnappers nor made any arrests. Informed sources said police had also released relatives of the bandits who had been arrested to put pressure on the kidnappers.

They said it had been planned to establish five police stations and 20 check-posts, having modern weapons and equipment and trained force, in Shah Belo as part of the operation against criminals in the forest. However, they added, neither the police stations nor the check-posts had been set up in the area.

According to police authorities, they had held two meetings with the home department in this regard but the Sindh government had not released funds for the plan.

Sukkur DPO Ghulam Shabbir Shaikh apprehended that if the operation in Shah Belo was not continued and the police stations and check-post were not established there, the criminals could again occupy the forest.
