BAHAWALPUR: Differences crop up at PML-N meeting

BAHAWALPUR, Feb 16: The PML-N re-organization committee at its marathon session here the other day finalized its recommendations that would be forwarded to patron Mian Nawaz Sharif for approval.

The committee was headed by former National Assembly deputy speaker Jaffer Iqbal Gujjar. Ex-MNA Javed Ali Shah and former minister Iqbal Ahmad Khakwani are its members. The committee during its lengthy session, which continued till late night, interviewed former district and tehsil office-bearers and ticket-holders.

It noted the absence of former district president and former MNA Chaudhry Mumtaz Ahmad Jajja and former MPA Samiullah Chaudhry, who are reportedly annoyed with party bigwig and not willing to attend the session at the residence of ex-MNA Seth Aqeelur Rehman. However, Chaudhry Jaffar Iqbal Gujjar went to Jajja's house and brought the two at the meeting.

Later, it designed its report regarding the nomination of new office-bearers of Bahawalpur and its tehsils. During the meeting, differences between the rival groups of the party surfaced and some of the participants also thrashed a worker, Imran Ghauri, who had allegedly levelled allegations against Mumtaz Jajja and Samiullah Chaudhry.

UPLIFT SCHEMES: The district council at its meeting held at Rashdia Hall on Wednesday approved 24 uplift schemes worth Rs30 million. The schemes pertained to electrification, construction of roads and sewerage. At the meeting, the district Nazim informed the house that a recommendation to grant scholarships to the blind students had been made to the government.
