BAHAWALPUR, Feb 11: Some students of the University College of Engineering and Technology of the Islamia University claim to have designed a computer software that can help detect car-lifters.

A press release issued here on Friday said the software, which was prepared by classmates namely Muhammad Adnan Khan, Badar Humayun and Affan Saleem, would help detect car-lifters through a map on the computer screen. Even the stolen vehicle could be jammed on the spot of identification.

With nominal expenditure, they said, this project could be installed in the cars. According to the students, the programme won the third prize at the All-Pakistan Software Programming Competition recently organizaed by the Foundation for Advancement of Science and Technology in Karachi.

Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad, who gave away prize to the students, highly appreciated the abilities of the students and congratulated IUB vice-chancellor Prof Dr Munir Akhtar on this achievement.

LG ELECTION: The Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal and the Jamaat-i-Islami will contest the local government election at all tiers under the title of Dr Syed Wasim Akhtar group in Bahawalpur.

This was announced by Zafar Jamal Baloch, the chairman of the JI's political committee, at a press conference here on Friday. He said in this connection the JI would organize a local-body convention on Feb 27.

Mr Jamal criticized the government for increase in petroleum products and gas prices. He demanded that the president should leave his both offices and solve the Balochistan issue through dialogues, otherwise the country's integrity would be at stake.
