SUKKUR, Feb 2: Hundreds of people stormed on Wednesday the Yaroo Lund police station and forcibly occupied it after injuring the SHO and three constables. They broke the furniture and set the record of the police station on fire.
During the disturbance, the detainees in the lock-up of the police station escaped. SHO Akbar Ali Kolachi and constables Riaz Kolachi, Younus Korai and Shah Nawaz were injured in the attack, said sources.
The villagers attacked the police station in protest against alleged involvement of police authorities in the plan to kill the seven family members. Gullo Lund and six of his family members had been killed on Tuesday night.
The protesters alleged that a meeting was held at the residence of an influential landlord of the Bozdar tribe where the plan to kill Mr Gullo and his family members was prepared.
They said the culprits fled after the incident without any interception by police who did not try to chase them. They said when family members of Mr Gullo approached the police station for an FIR against some Bozdar tribesmen, the SHO refused to include their name in the report.
Yaroo Lund and its adjacent areas remained close throughout the day to mourn the killing of the family members. The Ghotki DPO could not be contacted for his comment on the situation.
When police called elders of the Lund community, Sardar Fayaz Ahmad Lund and Nazir Ahmad Lund rushed to the area and brought the situation under control. Lund tribesmen have refused to allow post-mortem of the deceased whose bodies are still lying in the village.
The DPO had claimed last night that six people had been killed and Gullo Lund, who he said was a wanted criminal, was still alive. However, informed sources said relatives had buried Mr Gullo at some undisclosed place so that police could not later frame charges of a fake encounter against him. Situation in the area remained tense and police patrolling has been intensified to avert a clash between Lund and Bozdar tribesmen.
