ISLAMABAD, Jan 31: The Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) on Monday announced that it did not recognize Dadabhoy Institute of Higher Education and, therefore, it would not register its graduates as advocates to practice law.

The PBC's Legal Education Committee chairman, Hamid Khan Advocate, presided over the committee's meeting convened to consider the advertisement of the Dadabhoy institute which appeared in the press regarding admission to LLB classes.

The six-member committee decided to warn the students about the status of the institute. It also suggested to the institute to reconsider its programme of imparting legal education in the interest of the intending students who would not be able to get themselves registered as advocates on the basis of their law degrees from the institute.

The committee said the institute was not competent and entitled to impart legal education. Under the Legal Practitioners and Bar Council Act 1973, the PBC is empowered to promote and monitor the quality of legal education being imparted by different universities in the country.

The PBC is also empowered to make rules to be observed by the universities. The bar council act authorizes the council to inspect any university to ascertain the quality and standard of the education being imparted.
