TOBA TEK SINGH, Jan 28: Kamalia police on Friday registered cases against 35 people for staging demonstration and instigating students to block road on Thursday on the eve of inauguration of Government College Commerce by District Nazim Muhammad Ashfaq.
Out of a total 35 accused 14 have been nominated, including Fatyana group chief Chaudhry Zahoorul Haq, Maqsood, Farooq, Rana Amjad, Riaz, Sikandar, Zawar, Rana Rizwan, Asif Jat and Imran Siyal.
In any case, no arrest has so far been made in this respect till the filing of this report. Six students were injured when the police resorted to baton charge on them outside the Government Premsati College.
The District Nazim blamed Punjab Social Welfare Minister Begum Ashfa Riaz Fatyana for arranging protest demonstration against him. While Begum Fatyana refuted the allegation levelled against her by the District Nazim.
Meanwhile, Chaudhry Zahoorul Haq, the political secretary to MNA Riaz Fatyana, and other nominated accused condemned the registration of cases against the Fatyana group workers. Talking to reporters, they alleged that District Nazim Chaudhry Ashfaq was using state machinery against PML workers.
They demanded suspension of the Toba DPO, Kamalia DSP and Kamalia Sadar SHO and withdrawal of cases against them. They also urged the Punjab chief minister to hold inquiry into the excesses of the District Nazim against the Fatyana group.
VISIT: Kharian Corps Commander Shahid Iqbal visited here on Friday. The Corps Commander held a meeting with the District Nazim, DPO, DCO and other officials with regard to security measures during Muharram. He directed them to make foolproof security arrangements during the 'Azadari' processions.
RALLY: Activists of MMA and PML-N observed a black day and took out a protest demonstration on Friday on the call of their leadership. It started from the Grain Market Jamia Mosque and after marching through various roads ended at Chowk Sadar Bazaar.
Addressing the participants, MMA district chief Mufti Aslam, Jamaat-i-Islami district amir Dr Zahid Sattar, PML-N leader Amjad Javed and JUI-F leader Maulana Lutfullah condemned President Musharraf for not wearing off uniform.
