LAHORE, Jan 28: Punjab Governor Khalid Maqbool has constituted a task force to open Aitchison College's branches in Multan, Faisalabad and other cities as well as the establishment of Aitchison College for Girls in Lahore.
The task force will consult different public schools and submit its recommendations to the Aitchison College board of governors within next three months. The decision to constitute the task force was taken in the Aitchison College's BoG meeting chaired by the Punjab governor here on Friday.
The governor directed the Aitchison College's administration to devise a system to allocate 30 per cent seats for talented students from middle and poor class of society. He said the system should have an in-built mechanism so that the expenses of talented students from middle and poor classes be borne by Old Aitchisonians.
The board nominated Justice Savindar Singh Sodhi (retired), Yadvinder Public School Patiala BoG member, Aitchison College BoG member as a token representation of Old Aitchisonians in Indian Punjab. The board also approved budget proposals for the year 2005.
The governor lauded industrialist Syed Babar Ali's offer to construct a multi-purpose complex for prep school of the college. The governor stressed the use of latest teaching technologies in the college.
Punjab chief secretary Kamran Rasool, Governor's principal secretary Muhammad Ziaur Rehman, finance secretary Salman Siddique, education secretary Shahid Rasheed, college principal Shamim Saifullah Khan, Syed Babar Ali, Makhdoom Ahmad Mahmood, Raza Quli Khan Khatak, Tariq Saeed Saigol, Sikandar Hayat Jamali, Nauman Ahmad Khan and Mrs Tauqir Zia attended the meeting.
