LAHORE, Jan 27: The Punjab Anti-Corruption Establishment on Thursday arrested Ravi Town Nazim Amir Munir's brother in connection with financial irregularities.

An ACE official told Dawn that Adil Munir had been arrested after the ACE learnt that the Nazim had spent the embezzled money for purchasing property in his brother's name. Adil was produced in an anti-corruption court for a three-day remand.

The official said investigation was under way against the accused Nazim's brother and there were chances that the establishment would arrest other members of the family as well.

Amir Munir had absconded from an anti-corruption court in the third week of December after his interim bail was cancelled. Subsequently, he reportedly managed to leave the country and take refuge in Dubai.

Amir, who had recently been declared proclaimed offender, is charged with embezzling development funds totalling over Rs44 million. Also involved in the case are six town officials, three of them still absconding, who have already been booked. The ACE claimed that one of the absconding town officers, Naeem, had gone to Saudi Arabia to perform Haj and would be arrested on his return.
