GHALLANAI, Jan 26: NWFP Governor Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah has directed the Mohmand Agency councillor to elect a leader of the house and a convener for their council in a week in order to run its proceedings in a transparent manner.

Addressing a meeting of the councillor during his day-long visit to the agency on Wednesday, the governor said that there should be nazims to lead the new system and conveners to run the council proceedings in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas.

He said that meetings of the agency council must be presided over by an elected member, rather than a bureaucrat, who should be called speaker. "It would be far better if both these slots are filled with consensus or by a majority vote by the councillor.

These posts can also be held by the members in rotation," he said. Mr Shah made it clear that there would be no concept of opposition in the house and all powers would rest with the council instead of individuals.

The meeting was attended by all councillor of the Mohmand Agency besides an MNA, Maulana Ghulam Mohammad Sadiq. Political Agent Sahibzada Mohammad Anis was also present.
