KARACHI, Jan 17: Teaching at the Federal Urdu University of Arts, Sciences and Technology, Gulshan campus, will resume, after a week's gap on Tuesday, claimed official sources.

Sources on the Gulshan campus said that students allegedly responsible for creating a fuss on the campus on Jan 10 and misbehaving with some teachers apologised for their act at a meeting, which was convened by the dean of the Science faculty, Prof Mohammad Saeed, on Monday.

Three of the students in question and their relatives were called for the meeting as part of the disciplinary move by the varsity administration, which had to postpone examinations till Jan 25 and put off teaching for two days in view of a decision of the teachers' body.

The Anjuman-i-Asatiza had put the condition of a formal apology from the students concerned and a meeting with their parents for resuming teaching activities on the campus.

Four teachers of the mathematics and chemistry departments, who reportedly were subjected to indecent attitude by at least three students, attended the meeting, which was also attended by a couple of senior officials included in the high-powered committee constituted by the varsity's vice-chancellor.

The students duly apologised for their offensive attitude towards the teachers, which was accepted by the high-powered committee of the university and the teachers in question as well, the dean of Science faculty said, adding that he did not see any further reason for teachers to delay teaching, and as such he was hopeful that classes would be held on the Gulshan campus from Tuesday.

The matter pertaining to the alleged misconduct of students and the stand taken by the teachers' body was also considered at a meeting of the chairpersons, held with the varsity VC, Dr Iqbal Mohsin, in the chair on Monday.

The president of the Anjuman-i-Asatiza, Viqar ul Haq, stated at the meeting that after tendering apologies by the said students and their approval by the aggrieved teachers, he could say that teachers would resume their duties from Tuesday.
