NAWABSHAH, Jan 13: Skin disease cutaneous leishmaniasis has surfaced in the district and several cases of the disease, caused by sand fly, have been reported at the People's Medical College Hospital and private clinics here in one month.
Two to three cases of the disease are being reported at the PMCH daily but the patients are not being admitted because the hospital is short of vaccines and medicines required for treatment of the disease.
Dr Mohammad Saleem Faiz told this correspondent that required medicines and vaccines were not available at the hospital. Therefore, he added, the patients were being prescribed a vaccination course which they should take through private means.
Dr Waheeda Noorani said cases had been reported at the hospital from the Nawabshah city, 60-Miles, Qazi Ahmad, Daulatpur, Moro and other areas. Dr Ghaffar Rathor said he had received four cases in the last three days from Naushahro Feroze, Bandhi and Bucheri. When contacted the DCO's office, Dr Moharram Leghari said the office had not received any report of leishmaniasis from the district.
