KARACHI, Jan 11: Shoaib Khan was further remanded on Tuesday to police for interrogation in a double murder case by a judicial magistrate of district South.

The case pertained to the killing of Idrees Preedy and Mohammed Akbar, two workers of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement on December 27, 1996, within the limits of the Preedy police station.

The police produced the suspected don of the underworld in handcuffs and muffled amid tightened security in the court of Lubna Yousuf, who remanded him to the police till Jan 16. The same magistrate also gave Shoaib Khan to police custody for two days for interrogation into a case pertaining to possession of unlicensed arms and ammunition.

Shoaib Khan was booked in the case by the Kalakot police after two rocket launchers and an identical number of handgrenades were seized from a house in the vicinity on a lead given by him.

Later, the police produced Shoiab Khan and co-accused Akram before the judicial magistrate, Central, and sought their further remand in a double murder case. However, the magistrate declined the request of the investigation agency and sent the two suspects to jail till Jan 25.

RANSOM CASE: An anti-terrorism court put off on Tuesday the hearing of a kidnapping for ransom case against seven accused persons after recording the statements of 10 defence witnesses.

Judge Arshad Noor Khan of the ATC-3 fixed Wednesday for recording the statements of further five defence witnesses. The accused -- Kalim Ullah Arshad Pervaiz, Mohammad Siddique, Bilal, Fateh Mohammad, Mohammed Hasan and Ali Ahmed - have been charged with the kidnapping of a junk dealer's young son on May 24, last year in Shah Faisal Colony.

According to prosecution, six occupants of a Toyota Corolla intercepted Kamran near Nauman Public School where he had gone to drop his younger sister on his motorbike. He was forced into the car at gunpoint and two of the accused took away his bike.

The accused allegedly demanded Rs2 million for the release of the 18-year-old victim from his father, Ikram Uddin, a Sherhah-based junk dealer. However, later they agreed to accept Rs500,000 as ransom.

It was alleged that the victim was kept at the house of accused in Safoora Goth before he was released after the payment of agreed ransom at the Civil Hospital. The Shah Faisal police registered the case initially against unknown culprits on the complaint of the victim's father.

Later on Nov 3, the police arrested all seven accused in a ground near Saba Palace after being informed of the presence of some suspicious people there. The police also allegedly seized unlicensed weapons from them.

It was alleged that the accused disclosed their involvement in the kidnapping of Kamran during the interrogation. Special public prosecutor Naimat Ali Randhawa examined in all 16 prosecution witnesses, who included the victim and an eye-witness.
