LANDI KOTAL, Jan 10: NWFP Governor Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah has said that no concession will be given to tribesmen until they agree to install electricity meters.

Inaugurating a newly-constructed Sports Complex and Girls College at Jamrud in Khyber Agency on Monday, the governor cautioned that road blockades and protest processions against electricity load-shedding would not help the tribesmen and said the government had the option to utilise alternative routes to Afghanistan for carrying further trading activities with the central Asian states.

"The electricity load-shedding in tribal areas will continue , till the tribesmen agree to pay for it as is the practice in the country," the Governor added.

The governor's visit to the Khyber Agency on Monday and on Thursday last were marred by road blockades and protest processions by the tribesmen against what they alleged prolonged load shedding of electricity in Khyber Agency.

On Monday the Peshawar-Torkhum highway was again blocked by the Zakhakhel tribesmen at Zeen Tara to register their protest against power suspension in their area. The road was later cleared by the Khasadar force.

The governor urged tribesmen to abandon militarism, pay their electricity bills as the whole country people do and voluntarily hand over heavy weapons to the administration. He said the government was even ready to purchase such weapons if the tribesmen so desired.

He urged them to educate their youths, especially their daughters. Later, the governor also visited Bara tehsil and laid the Foundation stone of a sports stadium and public model school near Dogra hospital.
