MIRPURKHAS, Dec 29: Poor sanitary conditions have prevailed in the city as gutters are lying choked in different areas, leading to overflowing of sewage on roads and in streets.

The affected areas include Lalchandabad, Toorabad, Dholanabad, Hirabad, Thamsabad, Naipara, Chaki Para, Nat Para, Pak Colony, Khad Plot, Sir Syed and M. A. Jinnah roads, Mir Ka Plot and Hameedpura, Jamnadas and Mir Allah Bachayo colonies.

Talking to this correspondent here on Tuesday, Mirpurkhas Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Khan Abdul Khaliq Khan expressed concern over the insanitary conditions and held the taluka municipal administration responsible for it.

He said people of the city were paying taxes to the government but the TMA had failed to provide them with facilities. He demanded that basic amenities should be provided to the area people.

POLICE EXCESSES: A woman, resident of Nat Para, has accused the Town police of committing excesses against her and her family. Talking to journalists at the press club here on Tuesday, the woman, Rizwana, wife of Mohammad Aslam, alleged that ASI More Khan, Naseem Malik and other police officials were pressuring her to pay extortion to them otherwise, she and her family members would be implicated in false cases.

She further alleged that the ASI and officials entered her house on Dec 26 and on her refusal to pay them money, they assaulted the inmates and took away Rs16,000 in case and gold ornaments.

She regretted that when she approached SHO Khuda Bux Panhwar for lodging an FIR, he refused to register the case and, instead, threatened to send her behind the bars. She said the police officials were harassing her family. She demanded that the police authorities should take notice of the matter and protect her family against police excesses.

CASE REGISTERED: The Town police registered a case against a man, Shah Nawaz Kehri, for allegedly killing his wife, Jehan Ara, on Monday night. The case was lodged by the brother of the woman.
