KARACHI: SBC to discuss future strategy: Judges' kidnapping

KARACHI, Dec 28: The Sindh Bar Council decided on Tuesday to convene a meeting of the bar representatives of the province to consider the situation arising from the administration's failure to recover the two additional district and sessions judges kidnapped from Shikarpur.

An emergency meeting of the council was held on Tuesday to discuss the kidnapping. Chaired by SBC executive chairman Abrar Hasan, it expressed its disappointment and anguish over the law enforcement agencies' failure to recover the judicial officers and arrest their kidnappers.

"Over a month has passed without any trace of the whereabouts of the judicial officers. The period is long enough to find a needle in a haystack", the SBC resolution said.

It pointed out that the kidnapping took place in 'a settled and populated area' and the police had no excuse for its failure to trace the culprits and recover the judges. It asked the province's bar associations to hoist black flags on their offices to express their deep resentment.

The legal fraternity would not put up with 'the inefficiency on the part of the administration' and a convention of the bar association office-bearers and SBC members from across the province would be held to discuss a plan of action. Meanwhile, the SBC is scheduled to elect its members for a new five-year term on Jan 15.
