Cases against 125 religious party activists

GUJRANWALA, Dec 27: Kotwali police on Monday registered cases against 125 activists of religious parties, including MMA MNA Maulana Qazi Hamidullah and presidents of the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam , Jamaat-i-Islami and Jamiat Ulema-i-Pakistan, on the charge of taking out procession and raising slogans against the government besides delivering provocative speeches.

Others booked are; district JUI-F president Syed Abdul Malik Shah, city Jamaat-i-Islami amir Qudratullah Butt, district amir Maulana Obaidullah Obaid, district JUP president Maulana Ali Ahmad Jami, Babar Rizwan, Hafiz Muhammad Saqib and Muhammad Salim. No arrest has so far been reported.

ELECTION PETITION: An election tribunal of the Lahore High Court on Monday summoned ruling party MPA Engineer Ashraf Butt on January 26 on the election petition of PPP candidate from constituency PP-93.

PPP candidate Chaudhry Tariq Gujjjar contended that the ruling party used official resources and machinery besides ministers for large scale rigging during the by-election on Oct 11. The petitioner submitted that the official machinery added 300 to 1,000 bogus votes for the ruling party candidate.
