Ejaz Shafi laid to rest

KARACHI, Dec 17: The Pakistan Muslim League (N) central vice President Mian Ejaz Shafi, who died here yesterday of heart attack, was laid to rest after Friday prayers at Milk Plant graveyard.

His funeral prayers were offered at Al-Hamra Mosque, Al-Hamra Society, Tipu Sultan Road.

His funeral procession was attended, besides party workers and relatives, by leaders of different political parties, including Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Rashid Rabbani of PPP, Veteran leader Mairaj Muhammad Khan, Haji Hanif Tayyeb of JUP, former governor Lt Gen Moinuddin Haider, Kanwar Khalid Yunus of the MQM, Haleem Siddiqui of PML, Mairaj-ul-Huda Siddiqui of JI, Maulana Abdul Karim Abid of JUI-F and others.

Soyem will be held at the Alhamra Mosque on Saturday between 8.30am and 10.30am, while for women at his residence, 42- Alhamra, Tipu Sultan Road. Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and PML-N chief Shahbaz Sharif offering condolence to his son Bilal Shafi on telephone termed Mr Shafi's death not only a national loss but also a loss for the Sharif family, saying he remained committed to the politics of principles and to the party.

Mr Mairaj Muhammad Khan said that besides being a sincere politician, Ejaz Shafi was also a good human being and a friend, who remained with his party in the worst circumstances despite having an option to go with the government.

Awami National Party leader Amin Khattak said that the opposition had lost a sincere leader, who was a well wisher and sympathiser of the poor. Condolence President of the Sindh PPP, Syed Qaim Ali Shah, and the leader of opposition in Sindh Assembly, Nisar Khuhro, condoling the death of Mian Ejaz Shafi, in a joint statement termed it a big loss for democratic struggle in the country, adds APP.

Meanwhile president, Lasbella Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Hub/Lasbella, Saleem H Mandviwalla has also expressed deep sorrow on the death, saying in his death the country had lost an experienced and versatile industrialist and politician.
