SHEIKHUPURA, Dec 16: The superintendent, his deputy and invigilators on Thursday reportedly took heavy bribes for extending all out help to BA candidates in their English paper.
At least 600 candidates appeared in the examination being held under the supervision of Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU). Superintendent Mirza Ishfaq, his deputy Subhan and invigilator Kalim Ijaz alleged to have taken Rs5,000 to Rs10,000 as bribe from the candidates.
About 500 people were present at the examination centre to provide illegal support to their respective candidate. Citizens Abu Bakar, Shafqat, Malik Munir, Sarfraz and others told newsmen that question papers and answer sheets had been delivered to such candidates a day before the examination.
They alleged that AIOU's district coordinating officer Ashiq Dogar was involved in this malpractice. He had his sister-in-law deployed as superintendent at the women examination centre. Use of illegal means was also reported from the woman examination centre as well.
They alleged that both the centres were completely under the control of booty mafia. Meanwhile, EDO Education Yousaf Gill along with a heavy police contingent raided the examination centre and recovered all the illegal material used by the candidates.
Seeing the police, the unscrupulous elements managed to escape from the scene. Mr Gill said that an inquiry into the copying incident had been initiated and those found guilty would be punished. AIOU's DCO Ashiq Dogar disappeared from the scene when he was tried to contact.
