DADU, Dec 5: Elections of office-bearers of the Sindh Graduates Association were held in Khudabad town on Saturday.
According to the election results, Altaf Hussain Gorar secured 77 votes and was elected chairman of the SGA association. His rival, Wali Mohammad Roshan secured 44 votes.
Abdul Rasool Soomro was elected vice-chairman, Ali Hassan Brohi secretary-general, Ghous Bux Kalwar, deputy secretary-general, Waqar Patoli, finance secretary, Karam Illahi Channa, information secretary, Ghaffar Leghari, education secretary, Khalas Khan, health secretary and Usman Panhwar, culture secretary.
Speaking on the occasion, SGA founder Dr Suleman Shaikh said that karo-kari killings involved some pecuniary issues and tribal chieftans and feudal lords were supporting this practice to maintain sway over society. He demanded that archaic Jirga system be abolished.
Dr Suleman demanded that villages of Karachi be given property rights and their seats in medical and other institutions be restored. He said that millions of illegal immigrants residing in Sindh be sent to their respective countries. Awards were distributed among singers and writers.
