KARACHI: Ex-DG of APP dies

KARACHI, Nov 24: Farooq Nisar, a veteran journalist and a former director-general of the Associated Press of Pakistan (APP), passed away on Wednesday afternoon.

Mr Nisar suffered a stroke late Tuesday night and was rushed to Al-Shifa Hospital where he breathed his last.

He was the elder brother of Ejaz Nisar, who retired as judge of the Supreme Court. Hailing from Lahore, Mr Nisar had been living in Karachi with his son for quite sometime.

He was a widely-travelled journalist who covered high-profile leaders and politicians within the country and abroad. His journalistic career spanned over 50 years. After his retirement from the APP, Mr Nisar also served as public relations consultant in the Central Board of Revenue

At a condolence meeting here on Wednesday at Karachi Bureau rich tributes were paid to Mr Nisar. Pervez Aslam, president of the APP Employees Union, Sindh (CBA), said that Farooq Nisar would always be remembered as a pro-worker director general. -APP
