28 selected for best teacher awards

ISLAMABAD, Nov 22: The Higher Education Commission (HEC) on Monday announced "Best University Teachers Awards" for 2003-04 under which 28 teachers representing various public-sector universities and degree-awarding institutions of the country have been selected for the honour.

An official statement issued here on Monday said these award winners would be given certificates and a cash prize of Rs100,000 each. The names of the award winners are:

GENERAL UNIVERSITIES CATEGORY: Dr Mugheesuddin Shaikh, Department of Mass Communication, and Dr Jamil Anwar, Institute of Chemistry, University of the Punjab; Dr Hayat M. Awan, Department of Management Sciences and Dr Mushtaq A. Saleem, University of Agriculture and Bahauddin Zakariya University, respectively; Dr Shaikh Aejaz Rasool, Department of Microbiology, University of Karachi; Dr Ghulam Mustafa Sehar, Department of Physiology, University of Sindh; Dr Aslam Baig, Department of Physics, Quaid-i-Azam University, Dr Abdul Wahid, Department of Botany and Dr Waseem Anwar, Department of English, Government College University, Lahore; Dr Sahakil Ahmed Khoja, Department of Management and Computer Sciences Karachi, Bahria University Islamabad; Dr Abdul Rauf Zafar, Department of Islamic Studies, Islamia University; Dr Shahid Mahboob Rana, Department of Zoology, Government College University, Faisalabad; Dr Mohammad Akram Muneer, Department of Veterinary Sciences, University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Dr Musa Kaleem Baloch, Department of Chemistry, Gomal University, D. AGRICULTURE UNIVERSITIES: Dr Mohammad Arshad, Department of Soil and Environmental Sciences and Dr Mohammad Siddique, Department of Veterinary Microbiology, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad; and Dr Ghulam Hussain Abro, Department of Entomology, Sindh Agriculture University.

ENGINEERING UNIVERSITIES: Dr Abdul Khalique Ansari, Department of Civil Engineering and Dr Ghous Bux Khasheli, Department of Chemical Engineering, Mehran University of Engineering and Technology, Dr M. A. Irfan, Department of Mechanical Engineering, NWFP University of Engineering and Technology; and Dr Sohail Aftab Qureshi, Department of Electrical Engineering, UET Lahore.

UNIVERSITIES OF HEALTH SCIENCES: Prof Sibtul Hasnain, Allama Iqbal Medical College, University of Health Sciences; and Prof Nazir Ashraf Laghari, Department of Ophthalmology, Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences.
