KARACHI, Nov 22: The police on Monday killed two suspected bandits in the crowded Sarafa bazaar area. A duty officer of the Kharadar police station said two policemen, patrolling on their motorcycle, were informed that two bandits are roaming in the area.

As they tired to intercept them, the suspects fled, opening fire at the police near Bilal Masjid. "The police also returned the fire, which seriously wounded the suspects. They were taken to the Civil Hospital where the two were pronounced dead", the duty officer added.

Two TT pistols and two daggers were recovered from them, the police added. The two were identified as Haroon and Yaqoob, both in their late 20s, the police added. Following the post-mortem examination, the bodies were sent to the Edhi morgue.

SHOTD DEAD: A transporter and a close relative of notorious gangster Arshad Papoo was killed by unknown suspects in Rexer Lane on Monday. Police said Faisal, 30, the owner of Gule Danial transport company, was shot at near his home by unknown bandits.

The bandits fled the spot. The young man was rushed to Civil Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Hospital sources said that the victim had suffered a bullet wound in his head.

KILLED: Tension prevailed in Baldia Town after a firing incident on Sunday night. Two persons were killed and four others were injured in the incident.

The police said on Sunday evening an activist of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement Mohammad Fahim was injured when some persons opened fire at him in Saeedabad. He was rushed to Civil Hospital for treatment.

Police said on late Sunday night, two groups of Muttahida Qaumi Movement and Punjabi Pukhtoon Itthad exchange firing which resulted in the death of one activist from each side. Four others were injured in the firing. Firing was reported from different parts of the Baldia Town throughout Sunday night.

ARRESTED: The investigation police of Shah Faisal Town have arrested a suspect in the murder case of a former air-hostess whose decomposed body was found from her rented house on the night of Nov 1.

Town investigation officer DSP Javed Aslam said Dawn that the police on late Sunday night arrested Saleem from Shah Faisal Colony. Saleeem confessed to have killed Yasmeen Malick. Giving details of the case, the DSP said the relationship of the air-hostess and Saleem dates back to some 20 years when Saleem was an employee of the Airport Hotel. He proposed her, but Yasmeen Malick refused to marry him. Instead, she married Malick Bashir from whom she had two children.

Later, Malick Bashir divorced Yasmeen and proceeded to England. In 1997, Saleem kidnapped Yasmeen's son from Saddar and threw his body in sea after killing the boy.

He was later arrested and awarded a 25-year prison term. However, after completing a seven-year term, he met Yasmeen who in the meantime was sacked from her job. Though Yasmeen had rented a house in Shah Faisal Colony, she used to sleep with her daughter Hina, 14, at her friend's house, also an air-hostess, in Golden Town.

The police said that prior to the incident Yasmeen had gone out with Saleem. Saleem told the police that he had killed her with a brick.

BURNS: A young woman suffered serious burns when she attempted self-immolation in her house in Surjani Town. Najma, 20, was brought to Civil Hospital with serious burns.
