KARACHI, Nov 21: A 15-member delegation of Defence Associations under its General-Secretary Aziz Suharwardy called on the DHA administrator, Brig Maqsood Hussain, at the DHA main office to tell him about civic problems faced by area residents.

A press release issued on Sunday said Athar Ali, DHA Secretary, CEO Clifton Cantonment Board Nasim Awan and other officials of the DHA and the CCB were also present. Mr Suharwardy said an inquiry should be held to investigate sub-standard work carried out by the CCB in Seaview as Rs4.8 million of public funds had been spent on streetlights which had stopped working after six months.

He compared this with the DHA which supervised installation of high-quality streetlights worth Rs7 million on main Khayaban-i-Hafiz which were also greater in number. He emphasized the need for better quality work as it would have a longer life. The Defence Association's coordination committee also said that haphazard water supply was causing serious problems to residents.

DHA administrator Brig Maqsood, who is also President Executive Board of the CCB, agreed with DACC's viewpoint and expressed concern over improper maintenance of streetlights in the DHA.

He ordered the CEO of the CCB to organize proper repair work by efficient monitoring and utilization of technical manpower so that streetlights in Seaview became functional within a week. He also emphasized the need for making fully operational streetlights in Phase VI, Phase VII and Phase V Ext as quickly as possible.

Brig Maqsood asked the director for water supply to streamline distribution of water supply and inform resident associations about the schedule of supply.
