VEHARI: More arrests in Punjab

VEHARI, Oct 10: At least eight activists of the banned SSP and TJP were arrested on Sunday in various parts of the district.

A source claimed that the arrests were made from Sahooka, Dokota, Jallah Jeem, Peoples Colony, Vehari; and Chak 11/WB. All the arrested were shifted to some unknown place for interrogation.

It was learnt that Ali Raza of Peoples Colony and Munir Bajwa of Chak 11/WB were among those arrested. The police did admit few arrests without identifying any suspects. However, the raids were being conducted to arrest the wanted activists of the banned religious outfits.

BAHAWALPUR: Three more activists of the banned Sipah-i-Sahaba were arrested on Sunday in raids at different places in the district. According to reports, Abdul Rahim and Muhammad Hassan Moavia were arrested from Uch Sharif and Muhammad Ramzan from Bahawal Victoria Hospital, Bahawalpur.

While Maulvi Gulzar Muhammad and Qazi Rashid Ahmed were rounded up from Hasilpur on Saturday. Police claimed that Maulvi Gulzar was detained under 16-MPO for allegedly delivering provocative speeches. Police said that raids were being conducted to arrest 12 more activists of defunct jihadi and religious outfits in the district.

FAISALABAD: The five arrested activists and leaders of outlawed religious organizations have been sent to jail by the district police after the receipt of detention orders from the Punjab home department.

Sources in the police department said on Sunday special teams had picked up Tehrik-i-Jaafria Pakistan's former district president Rana Muhammad Asghar, Sipah-i-Sahaba Pakistan city president Allama Tahirul Hassan and divisional president Habibur Rehman, and Syed Sibte Hassan and Khalid Imran alias Billo during a crackdown.

The arrested men have been sent to the district jail for three months under section 16 MPO. More raids are being conducted for the arrests of activists and leaders.
