RAWALPINDI, Oct 3: The government has expressed lack of confidence in district nazims for failing to control sectarian clashes and creating harmony between different sects, an official source said.
The source said a high-level meeting was held in which it had been decided to involve district nazims for curbing sectarianism. The government had asked district nazims to play their role in bringing harmony between both sects, but their response was not up to the mark.
The meeting had decided to constitute boards, comprising representatives of different sects, at tehsil and district level for promotion of sectarian harmony, the source said.
He said the district nazims were asked to keep a check on Ulema who delivered provocative speeches and utilize the services of intelligence agencies to collect information about video or audio cassettes being sold in markets which contained speeches that hurt the feelings of various sects.
The nazims were also directed to take action against those involved in selling or displaying posters, pamphlets and wall- chalking that promoted sectarianism.
The source said it had been suggested to form peace committees consisting of representatives of both sects. The committees were to be supervised by local police officer and public representatives.
