SHEIKHUPURA, Sept 27: the Over 100 activists of the MSF and IJT were booked on Monday when they traded fire on the premises of the local Government Degree College here on Monday.
The students and teachers saved their lives by taking shelter in different places, including classrooms. A heavy police contingent reached the spot and brought the situation under control.
On a written application of principal Ghulam Rasool Azad, the police registered cases against the rioting students and arrested one of the MSF activists, Nadir Ali. Talking to newsmen, the college principal said that five armed students of the MSF and four of the IJT stormed into the college compound and opened fire on each other. They were also accompanied by their more than 100 supporters.
He further said that both the rival groups wanted to hold supremacy in the college affairs. He identified the five armed activists of the MSF as Sikandar Virk, Shajar Hasan, Abu Sakar Virk, Ghulam Mustafa Maan and Nadir Ali. The four armed students of the IJT were recognized as Kashif, Amman, Saifullah and Abid Hussain. A-Division police are going into the matter.
BOOKED: Sharaqpur Sharif police have registered a case against ASI Asghar and two landlords for their alleged involvement in torturing and killing a man the other day.
Reports said Ishfaque was caught red-handed by Riaz and Sarwar of Sharaqpur while stealing their peter engine from the field. The landlords kept Ishfaque in confinement for two days and tortured him.
Later, the victim was handed over to the Sharaqpur police where he stayed for five days. During this period, ASI Asghar allegedly tortured him and later got him admitted to the local hospital where he died on Sunday night.
The heirs and residents took out a procession and blocked the Sharaqpur-Lahore Road for more than an hour putting the dead body in the middle of the road. On Monday, DPO Shahid Iqbal ordered registration of a case against the ASI and the landlords.
Meanwhile, District Public Safety Commission Chairman Hafiz Ehasan called Asghar, Riaz, Sarwar and the deceased's father, Umer Hayat, to record their statements at his office on Oct 6.
