KARACHI, Sept 26: The Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan, chaired a high-level meeting at the Governor House in connection with the forthcoming one-day international cricket match between Pakistan and Sri Lanka on October 6.
The meeting was attended by the Chairman, Pakistan Cricket Board, Shaharyar Khan, the Sindh Sports Minister and Chairman, Organising Committee, Qamar Mansoor, Chief Secretary Aslam Sanjrani, Principal Secretary Brig (Retd) Akhtar Zamin, Home Secretary Brig (Retd) Ghulam Mohammed Mohtaram, DG Rangers, IG Police and others.
Addressing the meeting, the governor recalled that arrangements made on the occasion of the earlier Pakistan-India match had been the best ever made. People too had fully cooperated and had demonstrated sportsman spirit and hospitality.
This time too, he directed, that all-out efforts be made for better arrangements. He said better arrangements could be made for the October 6th ODI by taking experiences of the past into consideration.
Participants of the meeting appreciated the coordination and cooperation of Brig (Retd) Zamin on the occasion of the Pak-India match, and thus decided to appoint him as coordinator for this match as well, and Adviser to the Chief Minister for Information, Salahuddin Hyder, as the media coordinator.
The governor issued various instructions in connection with security and other arrangements and called for better coordination between various departments. He directed that a local holiday be declared on October 6 so that people, unable to reach the stadium, could be facilitated in watching the match at their homes.
He directed that besides other preparations, arrangements also be made for proper guidance of people to their specified pavilions and seats. Emphasis was also laid on arrangements for availability of clean and cold drinking water and clean toilets at the stadium.
He stressed that arrangements be made for proper ticket checking. The PCB was asked to make arrangements for increasing the number of seats besides making them comfortable.
Earlier, addressing the meeting, the PCB Chairman, Shaharyar Khan, said that steps were being taken at school and every other level to promote cricket. He appreciated the cooperation of people and organizations responsible maintaining law and order on the occasion of the Pakistan India match. - APP
