BADIN, Sept 22: About 70 farmers from union council Nindo Shaher and Deh Angri staged a demonstration on the Shah Latif road on Wednesday against water shortage in their area.
They accused the executive engineer of the Akram wah division and the supervising irrigation staff of Kadhan of allowing influential landlords to steal water by tampering with modules of the Adho Wah of the Ali Wah Large.
Mohammad Mehran poto and others led the protesters. They told newsmen that modules of watercourses had either been tampered with or removed at the head of the water channel as a result no water was available at tail-end areas.
They said their lands had been rendered barren for the last ten years. They said no desilting work had been carried out for years therefore the distributary had lost its original capacity of carrying water from RD-13 to the tail.
They said neither Baildar nor Darogha or any responsible irrigation officials visit the area which helped influential people to commit irregularities. They said on Sept 18, water was released as per rotation in the Adho wah but influential land lords managed to close the supply immediately.
