PESHAWAR Sept 21: Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani has said the MMA government is fulfilling all its promises made with the people and has succeeded in removing sense of deprivation among people in backward areas.
He was speaking at different gatherings on the fifth day of his visit to Bannu district on Monday, where he inaugurated work on a number of development projects in Kaki and Barat areas.
The MMA government would not deviate from its manifesto, he said. The chief minister enumerated the achievements of his government, including the passage of the Shariat Bill, cancellation of wine permits, initiation of Islamic banking, provision of free textbooks to primary schoolchildren, declaring education up to matriculation free of cost and exempting five-marla houses from taxes.
The present government, he said, had approved jail reforms, announced Shuhada package under which the widows of martyred policemen would get salaries up to the age of retirement and increase in the net hydle profit on power generation.
Referring to uplift activities in Bannu district, he said provision of Sui gas to southern districts, including Bannu, approval of passport office, construction of a recreation park, central jail, Khalifa Gul Nawaz Memorial Hospital and three degree colleges were the achievements of the MMA government.
He said a circuit bench of the High Court would soon start work in Bannu. Elaborating the salient features of the university at Bannu, the chief minister said the university would cater to educational needs of modern age of southern districts and adjoining tribal areas. Mr Durrani said poverty and backwardness were the main areas of concerns because these factors bred wrong trends. -APP
