KARACHI, Sept 19: A meeting of the workers here on Sunday condemned the indiscriminate privatization of commercially viable organizations, and demanded that only such organizations which were continuously running in loss be privatized.

At the time of privatization, security of employment of the employees be also taken into consideration. This and some other demands were made at the meeting of the People's Labour Bureau at the People's Secretariat. The meeting was organized by the central leader of the labour bureau, and was presided over by Senator Anwar Baig.

The meeting through a resolution further demanded that the IRO-2002, controversial provision (27B) of Banking Companies Ordinance 1962; Section 2A of Services Tribunal Act 1973; and Ordinance of 2000 that gives powers to sack employees, be abolished.

In another resolution, the meeting demanded that ban on trade union activities in PIA, KESC, Railways, Pakistan Steel, banks and financial institutions be lifted so that rights of the workers could be secured. It further demanded that the recently sacked six officials of the Pakistan Steel union be reinstated immediately.
