HYDERABAD, Sept 15: Thirty-two local leaders and activists of banned militant outfits were directed by Hyderabad police authorities on Wednesday to deposit Rs500,000 each as surety and two guarantees of notables with the DPO, operations.

A reliable police source told this correspondent on Wednesday that notices in this respect had been sent to the activists and leaders through their area police stations.

The activists cannot leave their area without obtaining written permission from the SHO of the police station concerned. They also cannot attend public gatherings and meetings. The action has been taken under directives of the Sindh home department which has issued a list of 81 persons, binding them under certain protocols.

The source said that of the 81 persons, 32 belonged to Hyderabad and were affiliated with banned organizations, including Jaish-i-Mohammad, Lashkar-i-Tayyaba, Tehrik-i-Jafria Pakistan, Millat-i-Islamiya, Jamaatul Ansar, Sipah-i-Mohammad and Sipah-i- Sahaba Pakistan.

The remaining activists are residents of Karachi and Sukkur. The list was forwarded to the Hyderabad DPO on Sept 2 who presided over a meeting in this connection on Monday at the police headquarters.
