SHIKARPUR, Sept 13: People's Party Parliamentarians MNA Syed Khursheed Shah has said that water shortage in the country is a result of the sell-out of three rivers of the Indus system - Sutlej, Chenab and Bias - to India.
Talking to newsmen here on Sunday, the PPP leader termed the Kalabagh dam project a conspiracy against the solidarity of the federation. He said the government should follow suggestions by Benazir Bhutto and construct small dams across the country to overcome water shortage.
Mr Shah accused the government of violating the constitution and human rights with an aim to prolong its rule. He alleged that President Gen Musharraf was not loyal to the country but to his 'foreign masters', as he was following anti- people policies.
The PPP leader blamed that the generals had ruled the country for 29 years but they did nothing good rather created problems like poverty and law and order. Mr Shah said civilians ruled the country only for 28 years during which the army men created many problems for them.
He said despite all the hurdles, civilian governments tried their level best to restore democracy and serve the people. He said according to the article 43 of the Constitution, Gen Pervez Musharraf would have to assume one office either of the president or of the chief of army staff.
He criticized the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal for supporting Gen Musharraf to continue in uniform till Dec 31, 2004. He said the MMA had violated the constitution as it helped Gen Musharraf by accepting the LFO.
He said the Alliance for the Restoration of Democracy and the PPP could have an alliance with the MMA on the army uniform of Gen Musharraf. He warned that the people would be taken to roads and launch a country-wide political movement, if Gen Musharraf did not say goodbye to his army uniform.
