LAHORE, Sept 10: The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan has urged the members of parliament to set up a committee, across the party lines, to conduct a detailed fact-finding on the military operation in Wana.

The HRCP said the military operation in Wana and the death of dozens of people had raised many questions about the possible use of disproportionate and indiscriminate force and the safety of innocent people.

In a statement issued on Friday, HRCP chairperson Tahir Khan and secretary-general Hina Jilani said: "Certainly, the use of force against civilians can never be justified.

The HRCP has already spoken out against reports of rights violation in the South Waziristan area, actions that target entire tribes and the lack of transparency about either the targets being sought out or the purpose behind the army action. It now once again reiterates its stance, in view of the reports of the death of dozens as a result of bombardment."
