KARACHI, Sept 10: Sindh Minister for Power and Irrigation Nadir Akmal Leghari has assured that the office of Electricity Inspectorate of Karachi (EIK) deciding power-bill disputes of consumers and issuing certification for new connections would be streamlined for better pubic service.

He was presiding over Electricity Inspectorate of Karachi officials meeting, which was attended among others by KESC Managing Director Brig Tariq Saddozai. KESC's deputy chief law officer Zahida Chaudhary made a detailed presentation regarding consumers' petitions pending with the EIK for the last eight years.

The meeting was informed that 548 cases involving an amount of Rs209.18 million had not been decided by the EIK for the last eight years. Similarly another 90 appeals involving Rs166 million were pending before the provincial secretary irrigation.

Nadir Akmal informed the meeting that he had already made an in-depth appraisal of the EIK office and would constitute a committee to streamline the functioning of EIK bringing in total transparency in the system.

The minister said that he would also seek expertise from the KESC so that the EIK office serve both public and national interest.

Meanwhile, Sindh Home Minister Rauf Siddiqui said that he would ask KESC officials to conduct another survey so that over billing complaints residents of A.B. Sina Line could be redressed. He was talking to a 15-members delegation of women of the A.B. Sina area, who met him at his office here on Friday.

The delegation informed the minister that the KESC was sending wrong bills to poor localities while electricity breakdown was occurring on daily basis. They also complained for absence of streetlights in the area. The minister assured the delegation of solving their problems on urgent basis. -PPI
