LAHORE, Sept 8: The Federal Investigation Agency's Gujranwala chapter claimed on Wednesday to have arrested seven fake travel agents in Daska and Mandi Bahauddin in the last three days.
Those held were Muhammad Afzal, Ghulam Mustafa, Muhammad Fazal, Shahid Shah, Muhammad Sohaib, Najam Qamar and Muhammad Ishaq. Officials said the suspects had taken Rs2.9 million from nine people of their areas with the promise of sending them to Greece and Turkey. Cases have been registered against them under the Human Trafficking Ordinance 2002.
ACE: The Anti-Corruption Establishment, Punjab, claimed on Wednesday to have arrested an inspector. The ACE additional-director (Sargodha) nabbed inspector Ghazanfar taking bribe from a complainant. A case has been registered against him.
WORKSHOP: National Accountability Bureau Director-General (Punjab) Maj-Gen Masood Aslam said on Wednesday none of its investigations could be completed without a thorough checking of assets and landholdings.
He was speaking at the inaugural session of a two-day workshop on "corruption in the revenue system" here at the administrative staff college. He said the workshop was aimed at providing the NAB investigation officers an opportunity to acquaint themselves with the revenue system.
The DG said the complexity of land deals and huge work burden on the revenue officials often led to corruption. Housing and Physical Planning Secretary Javed Aslam also spoke on the occasion.
