DPO ordered to shift Kalani to hospital

HYDERABAD, May 23: The STA Court Judge, Hyderabad, Parkash Lal M. Ambwani, on Thursday directed the District Police Officer (DPO), Hyderabad, to provide escort to the superintendent, Nara Jail, in order to shift Dr Niaz Kalani, vice chairman, JSQM, to the Liaquat University of Medical & Health Sciences after the medical officer at the Nara jail advised that he be immediately shifted to a hospital.

An application was filed on behalf of Kalani by his counsel, Pervez Qureshi, seeking shifting of his client to hospital as the JSQM leader was having kidney problems which could not be cured in the jail hospital.

The STA judge on the last date of hearing directed the medical officer of the Nara jail to submit his report.

The report has been submitted before the court through the Nara prison Chief, Zakir Piprani.

The doctor said in his report that he was treating the under-trial prisoner but there was no improvement, and added that facilities were available for better treatment of Kalani, therefore he might be shifted to the LUMH.

The STA judge said in his order that any delay on the part of the superintendent jail or the DPO would be seriously viewed.

JSQM SPOKESMAN: A spokesman of the Jeay Sindh Quami Mahaz (JSQM), Dr Zulfiqar Ali Panhwar said that the life of the senior vice chairman of the party, Dr. Niaz Kalani, who was confined in the Nara jail was in grave danger and one of his kidneys had stopped working.

In a statement issued on Thursday, he demanded that the imprisoned leader should be medically examined by a team of professors of the Liaquat Medical University.

He further demanded that Dr Kalani should be shifted to the hospital immediately as he was urinating blood.

The other central office bearers of the JSQM — Shabbir Jamali, M. Rahimoon and Sarmad Mirani — have warned that if any harm came to the life of Dr Niaz Kalani, the consequences would be disastrous.

Meanwhile, JSSF leaders, Liaquat Medical University unit, Dr Shaukat Panhwar, Zulfiqar Zanwar, and Sikandar Bhurgari among others in a separate statement said that they had met with Niaz Kalani at the Nara Jail and found his condition serious.

They claimed that Dr Kalani was so ill that he could hardly talk. They demanded that he be shifted to the hospital without any delay.
