KARACHI, Aug 27: Three persons were killed in road accidents in different parts of the city on Friday. A policeman, Asif, 27, died in a road accident in Clifton early Friday morning.

He was returning home after finishing his duty when he was hit by a speeding car in Boating Basin PS limits. He was taken to JPMC where he was pronounced dead on arrival. In Korangi, a cyclist died in a hit-and-run accident on Friday.

Police said Imran, 18, was hit by a speeding vehicle near Vita Chowrangi. The victim, police said, died on the spot. His body was shifted to JPMC for legal formalities. In another incident, a young woman lost her life when she was knocked down by a vehicle in Nazimabad.

Police said that the victim remained unidentified. She was crossing a road when the incident occurred. She was taken to Abbasi Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

NO CLUE: The police have failed to find any clue in kidnapping of Kapil Kumar, as his family awaits a ransom call from the kidnappers. Kapil Kumar, 13, was going to school when he was kidnapped by armed men on Wednesday morning within the limits of the Boating Basin police station.

The boy's father, Ramesh Kumar, told Dawn that his grandfather Narayandas Sharma, 70, died of shock in India after hearing the news about kidnapping of Kapil Kumar.

Expressing dejection over the slow pace of the investigation, he appealed to the kidnappers to release the boy on humanitarian grounds so that he could attend the last rituals of his grandfather in Kanti, India. Mr Kumar said that the family had not received any ransom call so far.

ARRESTED: One of the prime suspects in the kidnapping case of a Hindu trader who was kidnapped from Larkana in July was arrested by the police on Friday morning in Sukhan PS limits.

Confirming the arrest, DIG Operations Fayyaz Laghari told Dawn that Dadoo Sheikh was nabbed by the investigation police of the Jamshed Town. The accused and his accomplice Babu Sheikh were wanted in the kidnapping of a Hindu rice trader Santosh Kumar.
