Kuwait's FM due today

ISLAMABAD, Aug 25: Pakistan and Kuwait will sign MoUs on bilateral political consultations, fight against narcotics trafficking, cultural cooperation and a framework agreement on economic cooperation with the GCC.

The agreements will be signed during the two-day visit of Foreign Minister of Kuwait Sheikh Dr Mohammed Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah who will visit Pakistan from August 26, at the invitation of Foreign Minister Khurshid M. Kasuri.

The visit will provide an opportunity for the two countries to further strengthen their bilateral relations and exchange views on the current situation in the Middle East, Iraq and South Asia, a statement released by the Foreign Office said. Bilateral trade and economic cooperation will also receive boost.

During the Kuwaiti Foreign Minister's visit, Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) on Bilateral Political Consultations between Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan and Kuwait, Cooperation in Fight Against Trafficking in Narcotics and Psychotropic substances and an Executive Programme of Cultural Cooperation (2004-2006) will be signed.

A Framework Agreement on Economic Cooperation between the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and Pakistan will be signed jointly by the two Foreign Ministers and Secretary General of the GCC, Abdul Rahman bin Hamad Al-Attiyah.

The two ministers will hold bilateral talks on 26 August which will focus on whole range of bilateral relations. Ties between Pakistan and Kuwait are based on common Islamic heritage marked by warmth and mutual trust. There is convergence of our positions on a number of regional and international issues.

Both Pakistan and Kuwait are committed to the security and stability of the two countries, and to our respective roles in the region. Kuwait is an important Middle Eastern country, a member and current chairman of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). -APP
