HYDERABAD: Promotion of Sindhi language urged

HYDERABAD, Aug 24: The chairman of the Sindhi Language Authority, Dr Mohammad Qasim Bughio, has said that efforts should be made to promote the Sindhi language.

Speaking at a seminar on "Make the Voice of Sindh the Voice of the World", organized by the Sindh National Council here on Monday, he said that the unicode of the Sindhi language had already been introduced in the field of information technology which was a great achievement.

However, noted intellectual M. H. Panhwar, in his speech, said that the Sindhi language had yet to travel a long way to be accepted as a major worldlanguage. SNC leader, Hussain Bux Thebo, regretted that the VOA aired programmes in 55 languages of the world, but the Sindhi language was ignored despite having a rich cultural background.

On the occasion, a signature campaign was also launched to demand that the VOA and BBC should broadcast programmes in the Sindhi language. The seminar adopted resolutions demanding that Sindhi medium schools in Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Mirpurkhas, Nawabshah and other districts should be reopened.

The Sindh assembly resolution giving citizenship rights to aliens was rejected with allegation that the resolution had been adopted in haste without completing legal formalities. It was demanded that the Sindh assembly should revoke the said resolution to avoid hatred among the people.
