FAISALABAD, Aug 23: Students of the Punjab Medical College (PMC) boycotted classes in protest against the indifferent policies of the University of Health Sciences here on Monday.

Later, the students gathered outside the principal office to lodge their protest against some amendments made by the UHS to the examination process. They also shouted slogans against the UHS management.

The protesting students demanded of the chief minister to intervene in the matter and withdraw the amended policies relating to the chances of examination for the MBBS students and slab of marks for them.

Speaking to participants, their leaders said that under the new rules there were only three chances for the medical students in the 1st professional Part 1 and 2, four chances in 2nd and 3rd professional and five chances in final professional.

Similarly, in the 1st professional Part 1 and 2, the passing marks in MCQ's had been enhanced up to 65 per cent, therefore, they said that total marks must be 58 per cent to clear the 1st professional.

They claimed that the UHS had also set only three chances for the medical students to appear in the MBBS examinations failing which there would be a complete ban on them for taking part in the examination.

All such rules and regulations introduced by the UHS for the five medical colleges in the province were not applicable in any part of the country. They announced that they would observe a complete strike in the college on Tuesday (today) besides staging a demonstration on the same day during the Punjab health minister's visit to the PMC.
