GUJRANWALA, Aug 22: Two people were shot dead by three assailants here on Sunday at Mari Bhindran village on a petty dispute. Reports said Muhammad Shehzad, Shehbaz Ahmad and Fiaz Ahmad were on their way to Tatlayali. Near a local high school, Zafar Iqbal, Murtaza and Liaqat Ali allegedly opened fire on them.
Consequently Shehzad and Shahbaz died on the spot while Faiz Ahmad sustained injuries. The slain who were cousins had told Zafar Iqbal about the 'bad character' of his sister. As a result, he got infuriated and killed them.
IMPOUNDED: As many as 5,916 vehicles were impounded and 497 drivers arrested by police on charges of traffic laws violations during the last fortnight in six districts.
This was stated by acting DIG Saud Aziz at a briefing here on Sunday. He said 212 drivers were booked for reckless driving while their licences were suspended, besides cancelling the route permit of about 76 vehicles. He said over 36,000 challan tickets were issued to vehicle owners in the districts, recovering a fine of Rs2 million.
Anti-polio drive: District Nazim Fiaz Ahmad Chattha has directed the health department to make the anti-polio campaign a success. The three-day drive is being launched from Monday (today). The health officials have completed all necessary arrangements in this regard.
