LAHORE: Heavy rain in Lahore

LAHORE, Aug 16: A downpour broke the over five-day spell of hot and humid weather in the city on Monday. The rain started at around 11:45am in downtown after dark clouds covered the sky. There was a light rain around the airport.

The rain, 26mm in downtown and 3mm at the airport, inundated low-lying areas and many major roads and intersections like Kalma Chowk, Mozang Chungi and Chauburji, creating hurdles for motorists especially motorcyclists.

However, Wasa officials immediately after the rain activated de watering sets at many intersections to drain out the rainwater. The day's maximum temperature was 35.2 degrees Celsius and the minimum 28 degrees with 76 per cent humidity in the morning and 92 per cent in the evening.

There were also reports of rain in Faisalabad, Sheikhupura and Kasur districts. The Met office recorded rain in Muzaffarabad (26mm), Shinkiari (17mm), Mangla (8mm), Shakargarh (5mm), Balakot (4mm), Islamabad, Murree and Marala (2mm each) and Phulra and Palandri (1mm each).

Scattered rain of light to moderate intensity was reported in upper catchment areas of the Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi and Sutlej. Isolated light rain was reported from the upper catchment of the Indus along with Gujranwala division.
