LARKANA, Aug 13: Lawyers in various cities of Sindh have called upon the government to settle the disturbing situation in Balochistan according to the will of the Baloch people.

At meetings held on Friday, they expressed solidarity with Baloch leaders and demanded that the government should immediately stop the military operation in Balochistan.

In a joint meeting of the Sindh High Court Bar Association and the District Bar Association in Larkana, the lawyers criticized the military action on the pretext of normalizing the law and order situation.

A resolution adopted in the meeting said that the government was violating human rights in Balochistan in the name of so-called development. The resolution called for solving problems through negotiations and not by military operations.

The president and the general secretary of the high court bar association, Illahi Bakhsh Kehar and Roshan Solangi, the president and the general secretary of the district bar association, Razzak Soomro and Safdar Bhutto, and others spoke on the occasion.

Amanullah Shaikh tabled the resolution condemning the military action which was unanimously passed. A black flag was hoisted on the bar office and advocates wore black arm-bands.

SUKKUR: Lawyers in Sukkur, Jacobabad, Shikarpur, Ghotki, Khairpur and other parts of upper Sindh held protest meetings against the military operation in Balochistan.

Members of the Sindh High Court Bar Association and District Bar Association hoisted black flags on bar offices and wore black arm-bands. They held meetings and passed resolutions against the operation.

They warned that any military action in the province would further complicate the situation. The meetings demanded that the government should immediately initiate negotiations with Baloch leaders.

HYDERABAD: The Pakistan Oppressed Nations' Movement, Sindh, at a meeting here on Thursday, condemned the ongoing army operation in Balochistan and demanded that it should immediately be stopped.

The meeting called for withdrawal of a criminal case against nationalist leaders Akhtar Mengal, Habib Jalib, Javed Mengal and others. The president of the PONM, Sindh, Dr Qadir Magsi, presided over the meeting.

SNP: Activists of the Sindh National Party staged a demonstration and observed a hunger strike outside the press club here on Friday in support of Baloch nation.

Speaking on the occasion, SNP leaders said Balochistan was a peaceful province but the establishment had launched an operation against the people with a view to controlling rich natural resources. They demanded that the ongoing operation should be stopped and all the issues should be resolved through negotiations.
