SHEIKHUPURA, Aug 9: Police killed three alleged proclaimed offenders in three separate encounters while eight others managed to escape on Monday.
District Police Officer (DPO) Shahid Iqbal told newsmen that a Khanqah Dogran police patrol signalled two motorcyclists to stop near Ajnianwala. But the motorcyclists tried to speed away.
The DPO said police started chasing them. The POs opened fire on the police party near Malianwala. Later, they took shelter in a school building. He said an encounter continued for some time in which PO Ziaullah was shot dead, while his accomplice managed to escape.
The DPO said the dead man was involved in 110 crimes of heinous nature, including murder and robbery. He said some time back Ziaullah, to take revenge from their rivals, opened fire on a wagon carrying a marriage party killing 22 people, including women and children, instantly.
DPO Iqbal said in an encounter the PO had shot dead a constable and a head-constable a few days ago. He was arrested by the Khanqah Dogran police but managed his escaped.
The second encounter took place in Dhamke village's rest house early in the morning in which PO Arshad alias Billo Oad was shot dead while three of his accomplices fled from the scene.
He said Sharqpur police received information that Arshad along with his co-accused had been hiding in the rest house. A police party besieged the rest house. On seeing police, they opened fire on them. In an exchange of firing, Arshad was killed, while his accomplices disappeared in the darkness, the DPO said.
He said Arshad had escaped from police custody just two days ago. In third encounter, which occurred near Moura in the limit of Mangtanwala police, PO Ramzan alias Jani was killed, the DPO added.
He said Ramzan was escorted by police after recovering the weapon which he used to kill Constable Tufail of Mangtanwala police some days ago. He said when the police party reached near Moura, four accomplices of Ramzan on two motorcycles opened fire on the police vehicle.
Ramzan freed himself and started running towards his accomplices. When police returned the fire, Ramzan was killed while his accomplices fled from the scene. DPO Iqbal said Ramzan was involved in over a dozen crimes.
