FAISALABAD, July 28: District Officer (colleges) Moazam bin Zahoor claimed on Wednesday to have set up a network of book banks in all colleges for the supply of textbooks approved by the Punjab University and the education department to the deserving students.

Talking to newsmen here on Wednesday, he said the step had been taken to provide financial assistance and prompt supply of books to the students. He said at present, there were 24 government colleges in the district out of which 13 are for girls and 11 for boys. The enrolment of girls is 24,670 and that of boys is 14,660.

Giving details of the book banks, the district officer said elaborate arrangements had been made for the collection of books from passing-out students which would be deposited in the libraries of respective colleges.

He said librarians would be the custodians of the books while the in-charge of every class would recommend the names of the deserving students for free supply. The book bank management would ensure the provision of books as per demand of the students, the DO said

Mr Zahoor said during the campaign launched for collection of the books from passing-out students, thousands of books of almost all subjects were deposited by the students voluntarily and that spirit encouraged the establishment of banks on permanent basis in all the colleges for the well-being of poor and deserving students.
