Rs5 million for civil defence

LAHORE, May 22: District Naib Nazim Farooq Amjad Mir on Wednesday ordered immediate release of Rs5 million for the civil defence organization.

District Coordination Officer Tariq Shafi Chak later presided over an emergency session of the civil defence organization and was told by the divisional wardens that the volunteers did not have even uniforms and were still to be trained. He directed the executive district officer (revenue) to get at least 2,200 uniforms stitched within a week.

The DCO directed civil defence officer Liaquat Ali Bhatti to prepare syllabus for the training of volunteers and depute instructors for starting their training. All necessary training equipment should also be purchased immediately and the sirens in the provincial metropolis be put in working order. The absentee instructors should be proceeded against.

The DCO directed the EDO (finance) to spare funds for the purchase of fire fighting and civil defence equipment. It was decided to organize a civil defence demonstration at the Islamia High School, Lahore Cantt, on May 25.
