LAHORE, July 15: The Punjab government is appointing DMG or PCS executive officers as monitoring and evaluation officers in every district to ensure implementation of its educational reforms.
The new posts would be created during the next 15 days, and the officers would be independent of the existing education management at district level. The decision was taken at a meeting presided over by Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi here on Thursday.
Since the reforms programme is being run under the supervision of the chief minister, the officers will be directly answerable to him through the chief secretary. The officers would be appointed after proper training and provided with data regarding implementation of the programme in districts so as to enable them to monitor it within a defined parameter.
Their area of operation would be provision of missing facilities in schools, provision of free books to students and scholarships to girl students. They would also be responsible for creating and looking after school councils.
Officials said the chief minister had directed the officials concerned to strengthen the existing setup of the education department in the districts. He said the performance of the officers would be monitored by a provincial steering committee to be presided over by the chief secretary.
