HYDERABAD, May 22: The leaders of the Sindh Democratic Alliance (SDA), Hyderabad, have claimed that the alliance will soon emerge as the biggest political group in Sindh.

Speaking at a news conference here on Wednesday, they said the SDA would strive for provincial autonomy within the framework of the federation under the 1973 Constitution to serve the cause of the people, permanently settled in Sindh, without any discrimination.

They said the SDA would struggle for the economic rights of Sindh, commensurate with its share in the federal taxes, and will make efforts to convert Sindh into a citadel of peace and ensure its development and prosperity.

Giving rationale for supporting President Gen Pervez Musharraf, the SDA leaders said the alliance believed that through confrontation, democratic process could not be restored.

They stressed the need for unity among individuals and parties in view of the external threats confronting the country.

DCO: Hyderabad District Coordination Officer Mir Hussain Ali has said that he will be holding a meeting with contractors to ensure that work of development did not suffer and that the schemes under the KPP are completed on schedule.

He said this while presiding over a meeting of officials of provincial and district governments at the Shahbaz Hall here on Wednesday.

Speaking on the occasion, the engineer of the district council informed that 25 new schemes worth Rs30 million had been undertaken by the Hyderabad District Council.

SPSC: The Sindh Public Service Commission, Hyderabad, declared Dr Jawaid Alam, son of Mohammad Anas, eligible candidate for the post of professor, ENT, in the health department, who was interviewed by the commission and found fit for the post.

The commission has recommended his name to the government for appointment.

No candidate has been selected for the posts of professor, community medicine, and associate professor, forensic medicine, in the Karachi Medical and Dental College.
