KARACHI, July 12: A fifty-year-old man was shot dead and his wife was wounded for putting up resistance against armed bandits in Kharadar on Monday.

Police said that the victim, Barkat Ali, was returning to his house in Chand Tara Building in Kharadar after paying utility bills, when He was intercepted by two armed suspects, who demanded cash from him.

As he tried to put up resistance, his wife Shahnaz came out to his rescue. The suspects, in a fit of panic, opened fire and fled, injuring the two, the police added.

The couple was rushed to the Civil Hospital, where Barkat Ali was pronounced dead. His wife was referred to the Aga Khan Hospital for further treatment. Police said that the victim was owner of some buildings located in Kharadar.

SHOT DEAD: A young man was shot dead by unknown persons in the Shah Faisal Colony on Monday. Police said that Mohammad Naseem, 25, was passing through the main Shah Faisal Colony No.1, when two young men on a motorcycle opened fire at him and fled.

He was rushed to a nearby private hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The victim was an employee of a private firm in Clifton, the police said. The police suspected some personal enmity as a possible motive behind the killing.

ACCIDENT: A 17-year-old boy died in a road accident in Malir on early Monday morning. Police said that a cyclist, Sohail, was knocked down by a speeding Marwat coach, and died on the spot. His body was shifted to the JPMC for postmortem examination. The police arrested the coach driver, Rehan, and impounded the vehicle.
