Chandrika ally in campaign against LTTE

COLOMBO, July 12: Following last Wednesday's suicide attack by the LTTE in Colombo, the ultra-leftist and Marxist coalition partner of the ruling United Peoples Freedom Alliance (UPFA) government , the Jantha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP), on Monday launched a poster campaign in the capital and its suburbs against pursuing peace talks with the Tamil Tigers.

The ruling coalition has been openly opposing talks with the LTTE since last April's general elections, but this is the first time that it had kicked-off a public campaign against the peace process.

Sources in the President House, however, said no official decision has yet been made with reference to the resuming of peace talks with the LTTE. "This has always been the aim of the government and the pledge made to the people.

We do understand that matters have become complicated with the LTTE split and the LTTE renegade militant operating on his own", Harim Peiris, presidential spokesperson said.
